1. Any student on academic probation at the beginning of the academic
year will be ineligible for financial aid until removed from such standing.
2. Any student on disciplinary probation will immediately become ineligible
for financial aid until removed from such standing.
3. Probation may result from:
a. A cumulative grade point average below 3.0 in the basic sciences courses required of the program in which the student is enrolled;
b. A failing grade ("F") in the clinical sciences portion of the curriculum (Note: only grades of "Pass" and "Fail" are awarded in the clinical
sciences courses); or
c. Non-professional conduct as determined by the faculty and/or administration.
4. Financial aid eligibility for these programs are as follows:

5. A grade of "I" (Incomplete) will not impact a student's eligibility for financial aid if the grade of "I" is removed and replaced with a letter grade that does not drop the student's cumulative grade point average below 3.0 during the next academic semester.
6. A course withdrawal will not impact a student's eligibility for financial aid unless such event imposes probation as indicated in #3 (above).
7. A student's financial aid eligibility, after having been disqualified under this policy, can be reinstated when the student is removed from probation.
8. A student suspended from financial aid eligibility may appeal that status by indicating in writing to the Director of Student Financial Services and the Dean of the Dental Branch, or his/her designees, the existence of mitigating circumstances which may have impacted the student's ability to achieve the minimum satisfactory progress standards. Each appeal will be considered on its merit by the Director of Student Financial Services and the Dean of the Dental Branch, or his/her designee.
