1.
To be considered in good standing and making satisfactory progress for financial aid, a student must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale on all coursework attempted at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center School of Health Professions. A student will immediately become ineligible for financial aid when his/her cumulative grade point average drops below 2.0 at the end of any term (trimester) or a grade of "F" is received in any course. Courses in which the symbol "X" (Extension) is received will not be included in the calculation of grade point average for that term, provided that the "X" is replaced by a passing grade before the end of the following term. If the symbol "X" is replaced by an "F", a student will immediately become ineligible for financial aid.
2.
The standard time frame for completion of the program and maximum time frame for completion of the program for financial aid eligibility will be based on the number of credit hours in the program and the total number of credit hours attempted. The guidelines for each program are as follows:
|
Standard Time -
Number of Credit Hours
|
Maximum Time -

A grade of "W" will be counted in the number of hours attempted and will count toward the maximum time frame for financial aid eligibility.
3. To be considered making satisfactory academic progress, a student must successfully complete at least 70% of coursework attempted each term. The grading symbols that meet completion standards are "A", "B", and "C".
4. A student may regain eligibility for financial aid when the student has achieved at least the minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 and maintained the 70% completion rate, provided that the student is still within the maximum time frame requirements.
5. Academic progress will be verified at the end of each term, prior to disbursal of financial aid funds for the upcoming term. Progress will not be verified for entering students.
6. Any student who is denied financial aid as a result of failure to meet the minimum standards of this policy may appeal that decision to the Director of Student Financial Services or his/her designee. To do so, the student must submit the appeal in writing to the Office of Student Financial Services. The Director of Student Financial Services or his/her designee will review the appeal and consider any unusual or extraordinary circumstances that may have impacted the student's ability to achieve the minimum standards. The ultimate decision made by the Office of Student Financial Services is final, and justification for that decision will be on file and made available to the student upon request.
