Graduate School of Biomedical Science

1. To be considered in good standing and making satisfactory academic progress for financial aid, a student must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater. A student will be placed on financial aid probation when his/her cumulative grade point average drops below 3.0 at the end of any term (semester).

A student will be limited to one academic year (3 semesters) of financial aid probation. A student who fails to achieve the 3.0 cumulative grade point average within the allowed probationary period will be ineligible for financial aid. A student whose cumulative grade point average drops below 3.0 after he/she has exhausted the 3-semester financial aid probationary period will be ineligible for financial aid.

2. A student will not be considered to be in good standing and making satisfactory academic progress for financial aid if he/she:

a. Fails to meet with his/her advisory or supervisory committees
within a six month period,

b. Receives a grade of "F" in a course and fails to pass the same
course or its equivalent within a year,

c. Fails the Ph.D. oral candidacy examination, or

d. Is judged by the Academic Standards Committee and the Dean
to be making less than satisfactory progress in his/her coursework
and/or research.

3. The standard time frame for completion of a Master of Science degree is nine (9) semesters or up to 82 credit hours. The maximum time frame for completion of the degree for financial aid eligibility will be twelve (12) semesters or up to 109 credit hours of attempted coursework.

The standard time frame for completion of a Doctor of Philosophy degree is seventeen (17) semesters or up to 150 credit hours (inclusive of all other GSBS coursework). The maximum time frame for completion of the degree for financial aid eligibility will be twenty-four (24) semesters or up to 217 credit hours of attempted coursework.

4. A grade of "I" (Incomplete) or a course withdrawal (drop) will be counted
in the number of hours of attempted coursework and therefore will count toward the maximum number of hours attempted for financial aid eligibility.

5. A student regains eligibility for financial aid when the student has reattained the minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and is
within the maximum time frame for completion of the degree.

6. A student who is unable to complete his/her degree within the maximum time frame of this policy due to extraordinary circumstances may request to have the maximum time frame increased. A joint decision of the student's faculty advisor, the Dean, and the Director of Student Financial Services will determine if the request is accepted, and if accepted, the additional length
of time that will be given for financial aid eligibility.

7. Each financial aid applicant's academic progress will be officially verified
at the end of each term, prior to disbursement for the upcoming term.
