Dental Branch - Dental Hygiene Program

1. Any student on academic probation at the beginning of the academic year will be ineligible for financial aid until removed from such standing.

2. Any student on disciplinary probation will immediately become ineligible for financial aid until removed from such standing.

3. Probation may result from:

a. A grade point average below 1.70 for the semester;
b. A cumulative grade point average below 2.0 at any point during the student's progression through the curriculum;
c. A grade of "I" (Incomplete) or "F" (Fail) in didactic, laboratory, or clinic; or
d. Non-professional conduct as determined by the faculty and/or administration

4. In order to maintain eligibility for financial aid, an applicant must not be on probation and must have satisfactorily completed a minimum of 75% of the required curriculum at the end of the first academic year.

5. Financial aid eligibility will not extend beyond five semesters.

6. Course work in which the student receives a grade of "I" or "F" or in which the student repeats or withdraws will not impact eligibility unless such event imposes probation as indicated in #3 (above), or disqualifies the student under conditions of #4 (above).

7. A student suspended from financial aid eligibility may appeal that status by indicating in writing to the Director of Student Financial Services and the Dean of the Dental Branch, or his/her designee, the existence of mitigating circumstances. Each appeal will be considered on its merit by the Director of Student Financial Services and the Dean of the Dental Branch, or his/her designee.
